Australia’s Trio Elixir in a performance at NUAE

Australian Embassy in Vietnam joined hands with National University of Art Education to host a music performance by Elixir – a famous Australian jazz band on May 17th at the university. This was a part of the program to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Vietnam-Australia diplomatic relations.

The show saw the presence of Ms. Angela Pickett – First Secretary of the Australia Embassy in Vietnam and her colleagues, NUAE’s Board of Rectors, lecturers and students.

Representing the Australian Embassy Vietnam, Ms. Angela Pickett welcomed the visit of Elixir to Vietnam. She highlighted the significance of this performance in the cultural exchange of the two countries, sharing her hope that the outcome of the program would be a favorable condition to boost the cooperation in culture and education between NUAE and Australian universities of Art.

On behalf of NUAE’s leaders, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Pham Le Hoa gave speech at the event. He especially emphasized the international cooperation activities carried out by NUAE when talking about the current music education situation at the university. In recent years, National University of Art Education has promoted educational and cultural exchange with a large number of art groups from many countries, including Australia.

 

Elixir performing “First Seed Ripening”

 

After opening speech given by NUAE’s leader, Elixir started its impressive performance. Katie Noonan’s beautiful voice in harmony with saxophone tone by Zac Hurren and guitar sound by Stephen Magnusson magnetized the audiences. The first song performed was “First Seed Ripening” – a song in its album of the same name, which brought the initial success to Elixir in Australia. The exceptional performance was responded by the audiences’ continuous applause.

Besides its performance, Elixir spent time talking with NUAE’s lecturers and students. The artists were delighted to share their musical techniques such as breathing, position, vocal warm-up and performing techniques… The talk show was surrounded by a friendly atmosphere, bringing to the students more useful professional knowledge.

Before taking part in this show, trio Elixir members had performed at the stage of the Radio The Voice of Vietnam (58 Quan Su Street, Hanoi) and Trung Vuong Theatre (Danang city).

Elixir is one of the most favorite trio in Australia, which has 3 members: Katie Noonan – singer, Stephen Magnusson – guitarist, Zac Hurren – saxophonist. Elixir’s first self-titled album released in 2003 is in the top 20 best-selling albums in Australia. The second album by the trio “First Seed Ripening” had been standing at the first place in ARIA charts for Jazz in 9 consecutive weeks before winning ARIA award for Jazz category in 2011.
