After 2 years of hard working, the first students of the 1st course of Cultural Management Specialty (major code: 60310642) had finished their program and taken the final step before graduation. September 24th, 2015, Faculty of Post-graduate Studies, National University of Art Education organized a thesis defense ceremony for two first master’s students of the course.
Two separate Examination Committees moderated by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Thanh (1st Committee) and Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Cham (2nd Committee) were established. Other members were Dr. Dao Dang Phuong, Dr. Tran Dinh Tuan, Dr. Tran Hoang Tien, Dr. Do Lan Phuong in the role of examiners and secretaries.

At the thesis defense, master’s student Le Vu Hoang Khanh presented the thesis entitled “Traditional brocade weaving of H’mong people in Ta Van Commune, Sa Pa District, Lao Cai Province” (Academic supervisor: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Cham). Realizing the significance of preserving the traditional brocade weaving – a typical cultural feature of black H’mong tribe, Khanh embarked on a fieldwork in Ta Van Commune to identify the special characteristics of local traditional craft, compared to that of other villages in Sa Pa district. Through this research, she pointed out the opportunities as well as the challenges of this craft village in the context of a market economy. Besides, some suggestions to manage Ta Van traditional craft village were also given by the author.

Supervised by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thi Lan Thanh, master’s student Nguyen Thi Thu Huong had finished her thesis themed “The management of performing arts activities to serve the community of Hanoi”. Examining the actual situation of six theatres in Ha Noi, including Hanoi Cheo Theatre, Hanoi Drama Theatre, Thang Long Song Music and Dance Theatre, Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre, Hanoi Cai Luong Theatre, and Hanoi Circus from 2010 to 2015, Huong had found out the main problems in the management of those art troupes. Based on that finding, she suggested some solutions to address the issues and improve the situation.

After the presentation of each student, the committee members gave comments and questions on the student’s thesis. On one hand, the two theses were highly evaluated by the practical and scientific meaning and logical structure as well as appropriate research method demonstrating the authors’ hard work. On the other hand, the examiners also pointed out the shortcomings in the two theses concerning mechanical mistakes, style, citation, reference list …

Finally, the Examination Committees agreed to confer Master’s degrees in Cultural Management on Le Vu Hoang Khanh and Nguyen Thi Thu Huong with excellent grades 9,2 and 9,1 respectively.

The success of the first course’s two first students of Cultural Management Program was the evidence proving the teaching quality of the Faculty of Post-graduate Studies as well as the students’ effort. Besides, the thesis defense was a chance for the managers to evaluate and make adjustments in the program if necessary.
