Teaching musical instruments - core values in music education

   On March 21, a seminar on "Accessing international experience in teaching musical instruments" was held at the National University of Art Education (NUAE). The event is in the framework of cooperation between the Department of Primary Education - Ministry of Education and Training with Yamaha Music Vietnam Limited Company.

   This is an opportunity to help lecturers and students of the University to access international experiences in researching and teaching musical instruments at high schools of some countries in the region, meeting the needs of music in our new education program.

   Speaking at the seminar, Mrs. Trinh Hoai Thu - Deputy Director of Primary Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training) said: In the new high school education program, music education has new and specific points with the 3 followings:

   Firstly, music subjects have been taught in all levels of high school. At the basic education stage at primary and secondary level, the music subject is a compulsory subject with 35 periods/35 weeks/academic year. At the career orientation stage of high school, music is a elective subject with 70 periods/35 weeks/academic year.

    Secondly, musical instrument is a new supplement, taught in music subjects. In particular, this is also the first time the instruments has been taught with an official content in our country.

   Lastly, the method of music teaching in high school follows the trend of modern education, promoting the positive, proactive, creative in learning and developing the potential of music activities of students.

    Sharing at the seminar Prof. Masafumi Ogawa from Yokohama General University, Japan said: “Over the past 100 years, instruments have been introduced into music curriculum and widely practiced in and beyond the school curriculum in many countries around the world. Learning music is essential in the school music curriculum from both the educational and musical aspects for the real benefits. ”

  Prof. Masafumi Ogawa emphasized: Through the process of learning and playing different instruments, children will gain more knowledge about music in general and culture where the musical instruments originated in particular. The richness and diversity in music about Religions, Territories, as well as the Expression method brings interesting and deeper experiences, thereby creating excitement in learning for children.

   In addition, learning musical instruments also helps children develop their singing ability through coordination. Easily make more concerts than choral activities, based on performance level. The ensemble helps train cooperation, coordination, mutual respect and improving the collective identity for children.

   In the event, representatives of Yamaha Music Vietnam Limited Company donated many musical instruments to the National University of Art Education.

   The seminar has practical significance, contributing to fostering the contingent of lecturers and students of educational institutions who have trained music teachers for high schools. Expressing the initiative and actively preparing the conditions of the core teachers for the high school's music teacher training program in the future, in the spirit of implementing the program New high school education according to Circular 32 of Ministry of Education and Training.
