Ministry-level scientific research project entitled “To get traditional art forms in Red River Delta area into secondary school curriculum” successfully defended

The ministry-level scientific research project entitled “To get traditional art forms in Red River Delta area into secondary school curriculum” (code number B2013 – 36 – 26, person in charge – Prof.Dr. Pham Le Hoa – NUAE Rector) was successfully defended on July 20th. All members of the coordinating group and the examination board attended the conference.

Pursuant to decision No 1946/QĐ-BGDĐT dated June 12th 2015 by Ministry of Education and Training, the examination board was established with 7 members, including Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Phuc Linh (Vietnam National Academy of Music) – chairman, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen The Tuan (Vietnam National Academy of Music) – examiner, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Suu (Vietnam University of Fine Art) – examiner, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Toan (Vietnam National Academy of Music) – examiner, Dr. Le Anh Tuan (Vietnam National Academy of Music) – examiner, Dr. Dinh Gia Le (National University of Art Education) – examiner, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Dang Nghi (National University of Art Education) – secretary.

At the conference Prof.Dr. Pham Le Hoa clearly stated the necessary of conducting the research as well as the research’s methodology, discussion and results. The person in charge also highlighted the objectives of this project. That was teaching, preserving and promoting traditional art forms in Red River Delta area in particular and in Vietnam in general. Besides, the project aimed to help secondary school students better understand the value of some traditional art forms such as traditional music (Quan họ Bắc Ninh folk songs, Trù singing, Trống quân singing, Đúm singing, Xoan singing…), theatrical arts (Chèo singing, water puppetry), traditional paintings (Đông Hồ, Hàng Trống, Tò he or toy figurine…) and enhance the effect of art teaching through curricular and extracurricular programs in secondary schools of Vietnam.

Based on the findings of this research and the desire to preserve and promote Vietnamese traditional art forms, the coordinating group had included two proposals in the final report to the Ministry of Education and Training. First, they asked for regulations to implement the suggested methods in art education for secondary students at state level through curricular and extracurricular programs. Second, the coordinators required the assistance for learning equipment and teaching materials to run those programs.

Listening to the report, the examiners gave their comments and raised questions for the researchers. Overall, they highly appreciated the professional and practical values of the project, which could be applied to the current situation of art education in Vietnam. The results had covered all the stated objectives and based on the appropriate methodology. Besides, recommendations also were given by the board member to improve the project’s shortcomings. The research was approved by the examination board and given high distinction grade.
