SUCCESSFUL PROJECT DEFENDING

The research results of the project “’ Introducing folk songs into secondary schools’ were reported and defended by NUAE ordinating group on the 11th September, 2009 at Ministry of Education and Training’s conference room. Attending at the conference were Dr. Tran Dinh Chau, Head of the Bureau- the project director; Dr. Phung Khac Binh, Head of Student affairs department- Chairman of the conference; Dr. Sc. Pham Le Hoa, NUAE rector- the project ordinator, and all co-coordinators. Besides, there were project defenders who are musical experts, university lecturers as well as secondary teachers from Chu Van An high school, Hanoi and DienBien ethnic minority boarding school, and numerous interested guests.

The project aims at contributing to preserving and developing regional and ethnic minority folk songs; helping students be able to sing Vietnamese typical folk songs, access to folk songs performances, as well as have basic knowledge on Vietnamese folk songs; developing and improving students’ musical competence; educating morality; making students be patriotic to the country and its music by teaching them how to perceive music well; developing all- round students; supporting and strengthening the effectiveness of music teaching lessons.
 
After more than one year of implementation, the ordinating group has had research products including a book titled“ Collection of Vietnam folk songs’, a CD consisting of 57 folk songs, a DVD with 14 folk songs in the collection and 13 songs taken from secondary school music curriculum. These are practical and valued materials for teaching and learning Vietnam folk songs at secondary schools in Vietnam. 
 
The result of pilot teaching at some secondary schools initially showed the project feasibility, while as the products were highly welcomed by secondary school teachers, staffs as well as students. Introducing folk songs into secondary schools made friendly learning environment. Almost all pilot teaching lessons created exciting atmosphere and active students. The students had chances not only to enjoy, to sing folk songs but to participate in all related activities as well. Both the teachers and students showed their happiness and pleasure in implementing the project. All of them hope that the project will be further implemented in Vietnamese education system.

The chairman reviewed all the suggestions and comments of the scientific council members and participated guests, then gave out 5 outcomes of the project as followed: 1.The project met the demand of secondary schools; 2. It fulfilled the requirements of the central leadership; 3. It has been done in a creative approach which affirmed its scientific and practical values; 4. Its applicability is high, which can be further applied; 5.It plays important parts in improving folk culture education at secondary schools. The project outcomes were highly accessed at 92.5 score- excellent ranked.
The project results once again affirm NUAE’s leading position in art education in Vietnam.
