Seminar “Accessing international experience in teaching music instruments in schools” at National University of Art Education

    On March 21, 2019, Primary Education Department - Ministry of Education and Training, National University of Art Education and Yamaha Music Vietnam Limited Company solemnly held the Seminar “Accesing international experience in teaching music instruments in schools” at National University of Art Education (NUAE).

Overview of the Seminar

    Participating in the seminar, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Hoai Thu - Deputy Director of Primary Education Department, Ministry of Education and Training; Mr. Makoto Tani - General Director of Yamaha Music Vietnam Limited Company; Prof. Masafumi Ogawa - Yokohama University, Japan, consultants of the Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam; Lecturer Yuki Shimada - Yamaha Music School.

      On the side of the NUAE, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Dang Phuong - Secretary of the Party Committee, the Rector of the university; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao - Vice Rector of the university; leaders of units and officers, lecturers and representatives of students of specialized faculties.

    On behalf of the Organizing Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Dang Phuong - Rector of the NUAE delivered the opening speech, expressed his pride and honor to be the unit selected by the Ministry of Education and Training to organise the seminar and wish the Seminar a great success.

     Speaking at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Hoai Thu - Deputy Director of Primary Education Department (Ministry of Education and Training) affirmed the Seminar "Accessing international experience in teaching musical instruments at school” organised by the NUAE and the Yamaha company contributes to fostering the lecturers and students at educational institutions with teacher training for high schools. At the same time, the NUAE also showed the proactive and active readiness to prepare the core conditions for the program of popular music teacher training and the implementation of the new general education program under the Circular. 32/2018/TT-BGDĐT on renewing the general curriculum in the direction of developing the quality and capacity of students. The NUAE has thoroughly grasped and implemented the direction of Minister Phung Xuan Nha on renovation of primary schools, first of all to innovate in pedagogical schools, to renovate the training of pedagogical teachers for high schools.

   On behalf of Yamaha company, Mr. Makoto Tani - General Director of Yamaha Music Vietnam Limited Company donated music teaching equipments to the National University of Art Education.

Prof. Masafumi Ogawa - Yokohama University, Japan had a presentation at the seminar

     In the main content of the Seminar, Prof. Masafumi Ogawa presented the speech of "The benefits of learning instruments in the school curriculum from elementary to secondary". The presentation focused on the fact that music teaching has been widely practiced in countries around the world for over 100 years. Music helps create excitement in learning and develop children's skills through a combination of singing such as training for cooperation, coordination, mutual respect and improving collective identity. Especially musical instruments to help develop brain and thinking, through which children have a more active learning attitude, higher discipline, more self-awareness, better music perception, more love of class and more fun.

Lecturer Yuki Shimada - Yamaha Music School teached a demo class

    Also at the seminar "Accessing international experience in teaching musical instruments at high schools" took place the demo class of Professor Ogawa for specialized students and the demo class of lecturer Yuki Shimada for the subject specialized lecturers of NUAE.

    The seminar ended successfully. Through this, lecturers and students of NUAE have gained a lot of valuable knowledge as well as acquainted with advanced teaching methods in the world. This is a stepping stone for teachers and students to continue to study and improve their knowledge and skills to meet the requirements of the Ministry of Education and Training's new curriculum.
