Tsinghua University is a public university. There are about 7100 lecturers and officials, more than 20,000 full time students, including more than 12,000 regular students, nearly 10,000 Masters, Ph.Ds and many foreign students. Two art institutes were established in 1993 and trained 130 courses.

Speaking at the meeting, Prof. Gu Xiang-Lin, Vice Rector, presented the overview of Tongji University. The university has 50 university majors, 80 master majors, 39 doctor majors, and 9 post-doctor majors. There are 37,000 students studying at the university, of which over 5000 are doing master and Ph.D students, more than 400 are overseas students. The university employs over 4200 lecturers and staffs, 10 of whom are academicians from the Institute of Science and the China Institute of Civil Engineering, approximately 2000 people hold the title of Professor and Associate Professor.
